No sales team. Just me.

The phone rings again. Two missed calls.

This must be urgent.

I immediately call her back. Over the phone, I can hear my wife's panicked voice. She tells me that there is water pouring through the ceiling - like a waterfall - on our sun porch.

*Now I'm the one panicking.

We had purchased our 100+ year old home in 2014. We knew that a home of this age needed a lot of love and elbow grease. In reality, every inch of the house needed attention - even the bathroom had carpeting.

Above our sun porch is a flat, rubber roof deck. Getting a call that the roof was leaking seemed shouldn't have been a surprise. With a house this old, something was bound to happen. Yes, even to the roof of the company president's home.

We've never really used the rubber roof deck - for lack of a railing - but when I went up to inspect the problem, this is not what I wanted to see.

While I didn't have time to fix the leak right away, it was important to get a tarp over the area immediately - so no further damage was done.

Finally, my wife and I scheduled a weekend to fix the roof together. How romantic, right?

We quickly got to work pulling back the old rubber roof, removing and replacing the water damaged boards, laying down new fiber board, and re-sealing the rubber roof.

Did I buy new rubber? Nope. We were able to recycle and reuse the rubber because it was in good condition.

Did I buy all new fiber board? Nope. Some was water damaged and needed to be replaced, and some further back could be kept.

Does this make me the stingy Scrooge of roofing? Definitely not. But there's no sense in tossing perfectly good roofing materials into the landfill.

That's why I believe it's so important to see what actually needs to be replaced on a roof - versus what actually needs to be repaired. Roofing in a sustainable way is possible. Not only is this approach better for our community, it is better on your wallet too.

And because I had the opportunity to fix the flat roof, I was able to install footings - so a railing can easily be installed in the future.

I understand that we all have expenses, kids who need braces, groceries to buy, vacations to save up for...

Roofing repairs aren't usually expected. That's why I believe it is so important to give all of my customers different repair options. Every homeowner deserves a chance to make informed decisions about how and where they spend their money.

My team and I focus on replacing what needs to be replaced... and reusing what can still be used.

When you get a quote from us, it’s coming from me... not a salesperson working off commission.
