A Step-by-Step Guide After You’ve Purchased Your New Roof from Crown Roofing.
Congratulations on your brand-new roof purchase! We’re thrilled you’ve chosen Crown Roofing, and we want to make this process as smooth and stress-free as possible. To help you know what to expect, we’ve created this step-by-step guide to walk you through each milestone from contract to clean-up.

Milestone 1: Contract & Deposit Secured
We’ve received your signed contract and 50% deposit—thank you! This locks in your project and secures your spot on our schedule. Behind the scenes, we’re already moving to the next steps.
Milestone 2: Materials & Permits
We’ve placed the order for all the materials needed for your project. If your local municipality requires a permit, we’ve either pulled it already or it’s in progress. (Don’t worry—we handle all of that for you.)
Milestone 3: Dumpster Delivery & Site Prep
The day before—or the morning of—your scheduled roof replacement, a dumpster will be delivered to your property. This allows us to keep the jobsite clean and efficient.
Heads up: Please take a moment to move or secure any fragile or valuable outdoor items—like garden décor, potted plants, or keepsakes—so they don’t get damaged during construction.
Milestone 4: Crew Arrival & Tear-Off
Our crew will arrive bright and early—as early as your local ordinances allow. They’ll start with a full tear-off of your existing shingles and underlayment. Things may get noisy, but it’s all part of the process!
Josh will be boots on the ground for your project, making sure everything kicks off smoothly. If he's unable to be there, Rachael-Mrs. Crown Roofing herself - will be on the job site. And don't worry, you're in good hands with her. After all, she's the boss' boss.
Milestone 5: Decking Inspection
With the shingles removed, we’ll inspect your roof decking (typically OSB or plywood) to ensure it’s solid and safe. If there’s any damage, we’ll let you know right away and replace what’s needed.
Milestone 6: Ice & Water Barrier Installed
Next, we install an ice and water barrier to help prevent leaks caused by ice dams and wind-driven rain—especially important here in Wisconsin!
Milestone 7: Synthetic Underlayment
New synthetic underlayment provides an extra layer of protection from moisture or storm damage.
Milestone 8: Shingle Installation
Now the fun part—the shingles! Our crew installs them from the bottom up, row by row, with precision and care. The starter strip is the first shingle we install; this provides a start for the shingles to properly adhere. We use a chalk line to ensure rows are perfectly straight.
Milestone 9: Ridge Vent & Ventilation (If Applicable)
If your home has or needs ridge ventilation or box vents, we install those at this stage to ensure your attic breathes properly year-round.
Milestone 10: Hip & Ridge Shingles
Finally, we cap it off—literally—with hip and ridge shingles that provide both weather protection and a finished look to your new roof.
Milestone 11: Clean-Up & Final Touches
We finish with a full clean-up of your property. That includes sweeping the area with magnets to catch stray nails and making sure everything looks great before we call it done. Our goal is to leave your yard cleaner than we found it!
Milestone 12: That's It!
We’re proud to deliver a roof that’s built to last, and a customer experience that’s just as solid. If you have any questions at any point in the process, we’re just a phone call or message away.
Thanks again for choosing Crown Roofing.
If we still have a payment to collect from you - we'll do this now. We're happy to accept cash, check, card.
Did we miss a step?
Every roof is unique. This guide outlines a typical roofing process—but no two homes are exactly the same. Some roofs may require special steps like chimney flashing, skylight sealing, or gutter replacement, while others won’t. If you don’t see something listed here that applies to your home, don’t worry! We’ve got it covered.
If you have any questions about your specific project, feel free to ask—we're here to help. 920-358-0182
